September in Colorado has a way of turning the corner all at once. You go to bed on a Thursday in summer and wake up Friday somewhere else entirely — the light is different, the air has weight to it, and the things that sound good at the end of the day shift.
This week at the shop, we've been making a simple warm cider. Takes five minutes. Works better than anything we've tried for landing after a long Colorado Saturday.
What You Need
Start with 8 to 10 ounces of apple cider — fresh-pressed from a local orchard stand if you can find it, grocery store cider if you can't. Heat it in a small saucepan over medium-low until just steaming. Don't boil it.
Add a pinch of cinnamon and, if you have it, a thin slice of fresh ginger. Then add a full dropper of Wims Flavored Wellness — Lemon Basil ($40). Pour into a mug.
The lemon basil sounds like an odd match for apple cider, but it isn't. It adds a clean brightness that keeps the drink from feeling heavy, and the Wims formula has a warmth to it that fits the season well.
Why Wims Works Here
Wims is a little different from what most people picture when they think CBD tincture. It's a balanced 1:1 ratio of CBD to Delta-9 THC — both hemp-derived — which gives it a fuller, softer quality. The flavors were designed to actually taste good in drinks, not just be tolerated.
Lemon basil is the one we reach for in fall. The ginger lime version was our summer tonic pick. This time of year, lemon basil makes more sense — it's warmer, rounder, and it holds up in something hot. At $40 a bottle, you get a lot of evenings out of it.
Wims also comes in unflavored if you'd rather let the cider do the talking, and there's a variety pack if you want to try all three. We have them in stock on Eisenhower.
If You Want It Sweeter
Drop in a GoodLeaf Hemp Honey Stix ($2 each). Each stix delivers 27mg of CBD, CBG, and CBN in a clover honey base and dissolves cleanly into a hot drink. One is usually enough. It rounds out the cider nicely if you're someone who likes a little sweetness in the evening.
September Is the Right Time for This
There's something about fall that actually supports a slower Saturday evening more than summer does. Summer in Colorado is relentless — there's always somewhere to be, a trail to cross off, something happening. September gives you permission to stop.
This cider is the thing we keep making when that permission finally shows up. Come by the shop if you want to grab a bottle of Wims before the weekend is over. We're at 677 E. Eisenhower Blvd. in Loveland, open Monday through Saturday 11am–6pm, Sunday 12pm–5pm.
