Something we've been getting asked about at the shop lately: what's going to happen to CBD products at the end of the year? Here's what we know — no alarm, just the useful version.

The Date to Know: December 11

The federal government is putting new restrictions on hemp-derived THC products. Those rules were originally set to kick in November 12th, but a stopgap funding bill signed in early September pushed the compliance date to December 11, 2026. The White House has said there won't be another extension after this one.

For most CBD shoppers, this isn't going to change much. The new rules target products containing more than 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container. Traditional CBD products — tinctures, capsules, and most gummies — fall well under that threshold.

What This Actually Affects

The category worth paying attention to is higher-dose Delta-9 THC products. If you've been using something with 5mg, 10mg, or more of Delta-9 THC per serving, that's what brands are reformulating right now to stay compliant after December.

We're watching this closely and in contact with our brand partners to understand where each product stands. Our job is to make sure the shelf reflects what's legal and available — the same as always.

Colorado Is Already Ahead of This

Here's something that surprises a lot of people: Colorado already has stricter hemp rules than the incoming federal standard. The state caps hemp products at 1.75 milligrams of THC per serving and requires a minimum 15:1 CBD-to-THC ratio.

Most products at shops that follow state law are already well within those limits. That's part of why we're careful about what we carry. Every brand on our shelf is third-party lab tested, and we're not guessing about what's in them.

If You're On a Product That's Working

If your daily routine involves a straight CBD formula — something like the CBDfx CBD + CBG Oil Wellness Tincture ($55) or the Essential Co. CBD Daily Capsules ($60) — there's no need to do anything differently. These products aren't going anywhere.
