If you've been shopping for CBD sleep products lately, you've probably noticed the letters CBN showing up more and more. It's on gummies, tinctures, capsules. Sometimes it's paired with CBD, sometimes with melatonin, sometimes both. If you're not sure what it actually is or why it keeps appearing, here's a quick explanation.

Where CBN Comes From

CBN stands for cannabinol. It's a naturally occurring cannabinoid in the hemp plant, but it forms a little differently than CBD or CBG. As hemp ages and is exposed to heat and light, THC in the plant slowly breaks down — and what's left over is CBN. That aging process is why older hemp tends to have higher CBN content.

It's not psychoactive. You won't feel any kind of high from CBN. What most people notice is a calm, settling effect — the kind that comes on gently and doesn't make a big announcement about itself.

What It's Being Used For

Sleep support is the main use case, and it's the reason CBN keeps ending up on the sleep shelf. Research is still early, but people have been using it specifically for winding down in the evening for a few years now, and the demand for CBN-specific products has grown steadily because of that.

At the shop, we carry a few products where CBN is doing real work. The CBDistillery Shhh Gummies (5) are a broad-spectrum CBN formula — if you've tried regular CBD gummies for sleep and haven't noticed much difference, this is often the next thing worth trying. The CBN concentration is meaningfully higher, and that's what makes it feel different.

The CBDfx Night Capsules (0) pair 30mg of CBD with 30mg of CBN in a capsule format. People like this when they don't want to think about timing a tincture or chewing a gummy right at bedtime. Take one an hour before, and you're done.

Paired With CBD, It Often Works Better

One of the things we hear most from customers who've switched to CBN sleep products is that the combination of CBD and CBN feels more effective than CBD alone. There's a real reason for that. CBD and CBN interact with different parts of the endocannabinoid system, and when they work together the effect tends to be more noticeable than either one solo.

The CBDfx Sleep Tincture (5) is a good example: it combines broad-spectrum CBD, CBN, and a small amount of melatonin in a formula specifically built for people who have trouble shutting down at the end of the day. Most people start with a dropper about 45 minutes before bed.

A Good Sunday Test Run

If you've been curious about CBN, Sunday evening is actually an ideal time to try it. You don't have to be anywhere early Monday if you're uncertain how it'll land. Low stakes, real data.

Come by the shop Monday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm, at 677 E. Eisenhower Blvd. in Loveland. We're happy to talk through which CBN product makes sense for how you sleep.
