Topicals vs Oils: Which CBD Format Is Right for You?
The Question We Get Every Week
"Should I use a topical or an oil?" We hear this one constantly, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you're trying to get out of it. They work differently, they're good for different things, and a lot of our customers actually end up using both. Let us break it down the way we would if you were standing at the counter.
Topicals: Targeted and Right Where You Need It
A topical — a balm, cream, salve, whatever you want to call it — goes directly on your skin over the area that's bothering you. It doesn't enter your bloodstream. It works locally, which makes it great for sore muscles, stiff joints, and general aches in a specific spot. You rub it in, it absorbs, and you go about your day.
The Colorado Fresh CBD Relief Balm is one of our favorites for this. It's made right here in Colorado, it goes on smooth, and the blend of CBD with other soothing botanicals makes it a solid choice for anyone dealing with everyday aches and tension. A lot of our customers keep one at their desk and one in their gym bag.
Topicals are also nice because they're simple. There's no dosing to figure out, no timing to think about. Just apply it when and where you need it.
Oils and Tinctures: Whole-Body Support
Oils work differently. You take them under your tongue, hold for about 30 to 60 seconds, and swallow. The CBD absorbs into your bloodstream, so instead of targeting one spot, it may support your overall sense of balance and well-being. People use them for general wellness, daily calm, better sleep, and just feeling more even throughout the day.
The GoodLeaf Nano CBD Drops are worth a look if you're going the tincture route. The nano formulation means the CBD particles are broken down smaller than traditional oils, which may help your body absorb them more efficiently. Customers tell us they notice the effects a bit faster compared to standard tinctures, which makes sense given how the nano process works.
Oils do require a little more thought than topicals. You'll want to start with a lower serving size and work your way up until you find what feels right. And consistency matters — most people get the best results when they take them daily rather than just once in a while.
Why Not Both
Here's the thing — you don't have to pick one. A lot of our regulars use an oil in the morning as part of their daily wellness routine, and then reach for a topical when something specific is bothering them. A tincture for the big picture, a balm for the trouble spots. They complement each other really well.
There's no wrong answer here. It really comes down to what fits your life and what you're hoping to get out of it. If you're still not sure, reach out to us or stop by the shop. We'll ask you a few questions, talk through what we carry, and help you figure out a good starting point. No pressure, no sales pitch — just straight talk from people who use this stuff ourselves.
