Why Gummies Are the Most Popular Way to Take CBD

Gummies are by a wide margin the most popular thing we sell, and once you've tried a few, it's pretty obvious why. They're easy. They taste good. You don't need a dropper, you don't need to measure anything, and you can throw a bottle in a desk drawer and forget about it until you want one. For a lot of our customers, gummies are the entire reason they got into CBD in the first place — and for plenty of others, they're a daily habit five years running.

But if you've ever stood in front of a wall of gummy bottles and tried to figure out which one is for you, you also know the choice can get overwhelming fast. There are 30-count jars and 60-count jars, 10mg gummies and 50mg gummies, daytime formulas and nighttime formulas, full-spectrum and broad-spectrum, gummies with melatonin, gummies with mushrooms, gummies with CBN, gummies with Delta-9. Here's how we'd walk you through it if you came into the shop.

Step One: What Kind of CBD Is in There?

The very first thing to figure out is the spectrum. You'll see three labels: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and isolate.

Full-spectrum gummies contain the whole hemp plant — CBD plus all the other minor cannabinoids and the legal trace of THC (under 0.3%). Most people who want the "complete" CBD experience reach for full-spectrum because of the entourage effect, which is the idea that the cannabinoids work better together than any one of them works alone.

Broad-spectrum gummies are basically full-spectrum with the THC removed. You still get the supporting cast, just without any THC at all. This is the right pick if you get drug-tested at work, if you're pregnant or nursing, or if you just want a clean label with no THC on it. The Koi Anytime Balance gummies are a really nice everyday broad-spectrum option, and the berry lemonade flavor is one of the cleanest we carry.

Isolate gummies use 99%+ pure CBD with nothing else. Less common in gummy form than in oils, but they exist and they're a fit for people who want the simplest possible label.

If you're just starting out and you don't have a reason to avoid THC, full-spectrum is what we recommend most often. If you do have a reason to avoid THC — and there are plenty of legitimate ones — broad-spectrum is your friend.

Step Two: How Much CBD Is in Each Gummy?

This is where labels start to get sneaky. Some brands print the total CBD in the entire bottle on the front in big numbers, which sounds impressive but doesn't tell you what you actually need to know. What matters is the milligrams per gummy. A "1500mg" bottle with 30 gummies is 50mg per gummy. A "750mg" bottle with 30 gummies is 25mg per gummy. Both of those are perfectly reasonable products, but you need to know which one you're buying.

For most adults, the right starting range is somewhere between 10mg and 25mg per serving. If you've never taken CBD before, start at 10mg, take it daily for about a week, and see how you feel. You can always add a half-gummy or another full gummy if you want more. You can't subtract once it's down.

The people who get the best results from gummies are the ones who treat them like a vitamin — same time of day, every day, for at least a couple of weeks before deciding if it's working. CBD builds in the system. A single gummy on a random Tuesday isn't really giving the product a fair shot.

Step Three: What Are You Hoping It Helps With?

Not all gummies are formulated the same way, and a lot of brands now make daytime and nighttime versions of the same line. Knowing what you're after narrows the choice down a lot.

For everyday balance

If you want a daily CBD habit and you're not solving for any one specific thing — you just want to feel a little more even — the broad-spectrum daytime gummies are the right move. They tend to use just CBD and a few minor cannabinoids without any sedating ingredients, so you can take one in the morning or after work without it pulling you toward a nap.

For sleep

Sleep is the single biggest reason people walk into our store. The combination that works for most of our regulars is CBD plus CBN (a minor cannabinoid often described as sedating) plus melatonin in a controlled dose. Koi's Nighttime Rest gummies are a clean, reliable example — 10mg of CBD per gummy with melatonin, and the cherry limeade flavor is honestly one of the best in the category.

If you want a bigger swing — full-spectrum CBD plus CBN plus a small amount of Delta-9 THC — the Koi Complete Nighttime gummies are the heavier version. The trade-off is that there's THC in them, so don't reach for those if you're tested at work.

For something different — CBD with a separate botanical sleep blend instead of melatonin — VitaDreamz makes a berry gummy that a lot of our regulars rotate in when they want to avoid melatonin specifically.

For energy and focus

This is a newer category, but CBG-forward gummies are picking up. CBG is sometimes called the "mother cannabinoid," and people who use it tend to describe a more alert, awake feeling compared to CBD by itself. The Koi CBG + CBC gummies are a solid daytime alternative if regular CBD gummies feel a little too mellowing for you.

Step Four: Read the Other Ingredients

Once you've picked your spectrum, dose, and category, look at the rest of the ingredient panel. Things worth checking:

  • Sugar content. Some gummies are surprisingly sweet — fine in moderation, but worth knowing if you're watching your sugar.
  • Vegan vs. gelatin. Some brands use pectin-based gummies that are vegan-friendly; others still use traditional gelatin. Both are fine if neither matters to you, but it's an easy thing to check.
  • Artificial colors and flavors. A lot of the better brands use natural fruit flavoring and vegetable-based coloring. It's not a make-or-break, but for daily use, cleaner is usually better.
  • Organic ingredients. Not strictly necessary, but a signal that the brand is paying attention to sourcing.

Step Five: Verify with the COA

Every gummy we carry has a third-party Certificate of Analysis on file. That's the lab report that confirms two things: that the CBD content matches the label, and that there's nothing nasty in the product (pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, microbials).

You can browse the COAs for our products on our lab results page, or you can ask anyone at the counter to pull one up. If a brand can't or won't show you a COA, that's the loudest red flag in the industry. Anyone making a quality product is happy to prove it.

If you want a deeper dive on what to look for in a COA, we wrote a separate guide: How to Read a Certificate of Analysis.

Storage and Shelf Life

CBD gummies are pretty forgiving. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and reseal the bag or jar after each one. Most are good for at least a year if stored that way. The two enemies of gummies are heat (which can soften them into a sticky mass) and humidity (which can make them weep or develop crystals on the outside). Don't leave the jar on a hot dashboard.

Come Talk to Us

The nice part about buying gummies from a local shop instead of from a website you've never heard of is that you can ask questions and get honest answers in real time. We've personally tried most of what we carry, and we hear feedback from real customers every single day. If something we sell isn't working for someone, we hear about it, and that shapes what we restock.

Browse what we have in the online shop, or — better — stop in to the shop on Eisenhower in Loveland and we'll help you find your fit. We're not in a hurry, and there's no wrong question.
