If you've been shopping CBD for more than a few minutes, you've probably noticed the labels: full spectrum, broad spectrum, isolate. Nobody explains what they actually mean. They're just kind of... there on the package.

Here's the plain version.

Full Spectrum

Full spectrum CBD keeps everything the hemp plant naturally produces — CBD, other cannabinoids, terpenes, and trace amounts of THC. We're talking less than 0.3%, which is the federal legal limit. You won't feel impaired. What you get is the whole plant working together.

The idea behind it is something researchers call the entourage effect: hemp's natural compounds may support your wellness routine more effectively when they work together than when they're isolated. It's why most of our regular customers land on full spectrum once they've tried a few things.

The Essential Co. CBD Daily Capsules – 2000 mg ($60) are a good example of full spectrum done simply. No extras stacked in — just clean hemp extract in a capsule format that makes daily consistency easy.

Broad Spectrum

Broad spectrum goes through an extra step to remove the THC, but keeps everything else. The terpenes and minor cannabinoids stay. You still get most of what makes hemp complex — just without any THC in the equation.

This is the category people reach for when drug testing is part of their work life. It's also a smart middle ground if you want more than isolate but aren't sure how you feel about THC.

The CBDfx CBD + CBG Oil Wellness Tincture ($55) is one we keep recommending here. It's broad spectrum with CBG added in a 2:1 ratio, plus curcumin and CoQ10. More going on than a straight CBD product, without the full spectrum THC question.

Isolate

Isolate is pure CBD, nothing else. No other cannabinoids, no terpenes, no THC. It's the most refined version — predictable in dosing, completely clean if testing is a concern.

The trade-off is that you lose the entourage effect. Most people who've used all three tend to find full or broad spectrum more satisfying. But isolate has its place, especially for someone who wants to start as simply as possible before adding complexity.

How to Actually Choose

Drug testing at work? Broad spectrum or isolate — either one keeps THC out of the equation.

No testing concerns? Full spectrum is what most people come back to.

Not sure yet? Start with broad spectrum. You're still getting hemp's plant complexity, just without any THC to think about. The CBDistillery Ommm Gummies – CBD + CBG (Broad Spectrum) ($65) are a good first gummy for this — CBD and CBG together, no THC, easy to gauge how you feel.
