CBD for Pets: What Every Pet Owner Should Know
Our Furry Friends Deserve Good Days Too
If you've ever watched your dog pace during a thunderstorm or noticed your older cat moving a little slower getting up from a nap, you know how much you wish you could help. That's one of the most common conversations we have here at the shop — pet parents walking in and saying, "I use CBD for myself, but can I give it to my dog?"
The short answer: yes, and a lot of people do. Dogs and cats have an endocannabinoid system just like we do, which means CBD may support their overall wellness in similar ways. We've heard from customers whose anxious pups seem calmer during fireworks season, and from cat owners who say their senior kitty is moving around the house a little more comfortably. Every animal is different, of course, but the feedback has been really encouraging.
What We Carry for Pets
We're big fans of the CBDfx pet line, and it's what we recommend most often. Their Hip & Joint treats are a go-to for older dogs who could use a little extra joint support. The Calming treats are popular with pet parents dealing with separation anxiety or travel stress. They also make Skin Health treats for dogs with itchy, irritated skin — something we hear about a lot, especially during allergy season here in Colorado.
If your pet is picky about treats (we all know one), the CBDfx Pet CBD Oil is a great alternative. You can add it right to their food or drop it on a favorite snack. It gives you more control over the serving size, too, which is nice when you're just getting started and want to ease into it.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Start low and go slow — that's the advice we give for people, and it goes double for pets. A smaller dog needs a lot less than a big one, and it's always better to start with a modest amount and see how your pet responds over a week or two before adjusting.
Look for products made specifically for pets, not just human CBD you're splitting up. Pet-formulated products use appropriate concentrations and skip ingredients that might not agree with animals. Everything we carry in our pet section is designed with your dog or cat in mind.
And here's the big one: talk to your vet. We love helping pet parents find the right products, but your veterinarian knows your animal's health history, medications, and specific needs. A quick conversation with them before starting CBD goes a long way toward peace of mind.
