October evenings in Loveland have a specific feeling to them. The sun drops behind the mountains early now, the air gets that clean cold edge, and somewhere around 5:30 you start thinking about being inside. It's the best time of year, honestly — but it's also when a lot of us start reaching for something warm.
We've been making this spiced apple cider at home on Friday evenings for the past few weeks, and it's become the thing we look forward to at the end of the week. The recipe is simple enough that you'd feel silly writing it down, but also good enough that you'd want to.
What You Need
Start with fresh apple cider — the unfiltered kind works best. You can get it at any of the farmers markets still running around town, or grab a jug at King Soopers. Warm it in a small saucepan over medium-low heat with a cinnamon stick, a couple of whole cloves, and a slice of orange. Don't let it boil. Let it steep for about five minutes, pour it into a mug, and then add your Wims Ginger Lime Flavored Wellness ($40).
Wims makes a 1:1 CBD to Delta-9 THC tincture in flavors that are actually pleasant to taste on their own. The ginger lime is our favorite for this — it's bright and slightly warming, and it doesn't fight with the apple and cinnamon. It plays alongside it. Start with one dropper, give it a stir, and see where you land.
Why Wims Works Here
A lot of tinctures taste like earth or grass, which is fine if you're adding a few drops to coffee you can barely taste anyway. But in a warm cider where the flavor is kind of the point, you want something that contributes. The ginger lime does that.
The 1:1 ratio is also worth noting — equal parts CBD and Delta-9 THC, both hemp-derived and well within Colorado's legal limits. It's a relaxed, settled kind of Friday-evening feeling, not a knock-you-out one. For most people, one dropper in a full mug is the right starting point.
If You Want to Make a Whole Evening of It
We've been pairing this cider with a couple of Koi Complete Nighttime Gummies ($45) a bit later in the evening. They combine CBD, CBN, and a small amount of Delta-9 THC — the CBN is what makes sleep feel easier without forcing anything. But honestly, the cider stands on its own. You don't need to stack anything on top of it.
This is just our current Friday. We figured some of you might want it.
