There's a date worth knowing right now: November 12, 2026. That's when a new federal hemp definition takes effect, and if you've been buying CBD products in Colorado, you deserve a clear answer about what it means for your shelf — and ours.

The good news first: if you shop at a dedicated CBD store and you're buying standard hemp-derived CBD products, not much changes for you. Here's the fuller picture.

What's Actually Changing

Federal hemp law has had a significant gap since the 2018 Farm Bill. The broad legal definition of hemp — cannabis with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC — created an opening for a wave of intoxicating hemp products, most notably Delta-8 THC, Delta-10, and other synthetic cannabinoids. These showed up in gas stations, smoke shops, and random online storefronts with inconsistent quality and minimal oversight.

The November 12 rule tightens that definition. Products in that gray zone — the ones that were technically "hemp" but had real intoxicating effects — face new restrictions. The change doesn't touch traditional hemp CBD products. It targets the unregulated end of the market.

What It Doesn't Change

Standard CBD products — gummies, tinctures, capsules, and topicals made from hemp with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC — remain legal. That's the core of what we carry at The CBD Store, and it doesn't change on November 12.

If you've been taking CBDfx CBD + CBG Oil Wellness Tincture ($75) as part of your daily routine, or keeping a pouch of Koi Anytime Balance CBD Gummies ($30) in your bag, nothing about that changes. These are straightforward hemp-derived CBD products — exactly what this rule is not targeting.

If capsules are more your speed, the Essential Co. CBD Daily Capsules ($60) we carry are full-spectrum hemp extract in a simple, consistent format. Same story.

Why This Is Worth Paying Attention To

We've been in Loveland since 2018. One of the most frustrating parts of running a dedicated CBD shop over that time has been watching customers come in confused after buying something labeled "hemp" from a convenience store or an unfamiliar website and having a bad experience with it.

The market being flooded with cheap, untested, intoxicating hemp products hasn't helped anyone trying to understand what CBD actually is. A cleaner legal landscape makes it easier to know what you're buying.

Every product we carry is third-party lab tested. The brands — CBDfx, Koi, GoodLeaf Hemp Therapeutics, Colorado Fresh, Wims — publish their certificates of analysis. That's how it's always been here, and November 12 doesn't change it.
